Taming Chaos
The kids are screaming, the work phone keeps ringing, the mail has piled up, and the dog has just ran across the carpet tracking mud everywhere... do you know the overwhelming feeling of an out of balance work-life? Unfortunately in America and across the global we have become busier and busier and the chaos and clutter has left us at times exhausted and drained.
Thankfully we have a spiritual means of easing the tension. Scripture states, “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of the LORD” Exodus 20:9,10. Clearly in this verse, one of the Ten Commandments, God is pointing out to the people that time management or finding that balance between work and rest necessary and a spiritual endeavor. There are 168 hours in a week, a practical solution to time management is scheduling your “life priorities”. Divide up your time, consider how many hours you have available each day, then assign your hours to these categories: (work/exercise/eating/ time with God/ personal/ time with family/rest).
By managing your time you cut down on some of the personal stress of life and you should be able to get that “work stuff’ accomplished. Remember to allow yourself some flexibility, the encounter with God mentioned above in Exodus is written as a joyous “spiritual” encounter. When you have balance of work and life your spirituality becomes more meaningful and the screaming kids and muddy dog won’t stress you out as much.
“Experience is not what happens to you. It is what you do with what
happens to you.”
